What Position are You? by Chilungamo Phiri

What is your positioning?
Are you a defender, a striker?
Or you enjoy being a sub?
Sitting down as you watch the team fall behind
One , two, three
With your knees

tucked,
You chuckle and chat
Without a care or fret
No pain no anguish
“It’s not me losing.”
You say.
All  you do is suffer in pretense
Training with them
When you are not
Are you a sub in this kingdom?
What position are you?

What is your positioning?
Are you a defender?
Rushing across the back-line
Tackling, preventing
Inhibiting the inevitable goal,
Being a nuisance,
A concrete wall
The last man standing
When all is down,
Bullying the team forward
“The will not score”
You declare.
Are you a Center-back in this kingdom?
What position are you?

What is your positioning?
Are you a striker?
First one in enemy camp,
Pulling the strings,
Avoiding tackles
Forcing the opposition back,
Mesmerizing with every move,
The goal is all you see,
The King has scored again
As you are up front
You sincerely proclaim
Are you a striker in this kingdom?
What position are you?

Or better yet:
You are versatile,
Up front in attack,
But when it is
Time to hang back
You tackle with at most precision
What position are you?

This kingdom wants people, who will pray
When we are about to lose a soldier
Pray just to defend:
The nation, the family and just about everything
To pray indefinitely.
But God also requires you to attack:
“Go ye therefore, and teach all nations”
The question remains

 What position are you?
